Tips on Dating Abroad

Dating on campus can be challenging – anyone who’s bumped into their nightmare Tinder date from the night before in the school library will vouch to that. It’s no wonder, then, that the prospect of dating abroad is so attractive. Here are a few tips on how to make it work for you!

Don’t “expect” it to happen

Going abroad just to find a partner is meaningless. This isn’t to say it won’t happen – just don’t make it your number 1 goal. There are lots of other things to do.

Visit local venues

You can meet people in local clubs, shops, and cafes and learn more about the country’s culture. Finding great local hot spots may necessitate some research, but it’s well worth the effort – don’t expect your future wife or husband to just walk into your hotel lobby bar. If you want to meet locals, you need to be where the locals are.

Tips on Dating Abroad

Avoid sex with group members

You may be tempted to hook up with a member of your study group, but college study abroad programs generally have policies against sexual relationships between students. If you get caught, there may be consequences to face, or your roommates might complain about the noise. Also, imagine it not going well, and then you have to face the person daily for the rest of the duration of the trip.

Go out to dinner with group members

This is a good way to get to know the people you’re traveling with. If nothing else, you might get a great friendship out of it.
