Be Careful What You Title Your Essay

One of the most tedious aspects of college life is all of the essays and papers that your teachers assign for you to write. Most classes have some sort of writing component and unfortunately, many of these intensive writing assignments are due around the same time. The variety of papers can be confusing and it is therefore common for students to title their documents temporarily with comical titles that truly express how they feel about each essay.

For example, people have titled essays with the names of their exes who they despise, curse words, and other creative ways. It is fun to look at your desktop and see your extensive and seemingly pointless assigned essay about Post-Colonialism with the title “Who the Hell Cares” or “Just Get it Over With”.

But, with the decision to title your paper in this way, it is also very important to remember that you did so in order to know to change the document to a have a proper title before you submit it to your teacher.

There have definitely been some horror stories where students have titled their paper inappropriately and have accidentally submitted their assignment to their teacher in that format. One student sent in a paper titled “LAST PAPER BITCHES!!!”, to which her teacher responded that she felt the same way about grading the papers.

Other teachers, however, may not have as friendly responses like that one. Another student submitted a total of four essays, each titled “Stupid Essay #1”, “Stupid Essay #2”, and so forth. His teacher did not necessarily find the titles particularly funny, but in the end, it didn’t affect the students’ overall grade.
