Helpful Tips to Get the Most Out of Seminars

Seminars can often feel like a bit of a drag, but they are one of the most useful aspects of college. Lectures are of course super interesting, but seminars offer so many more opportunities for a more involved, hands-on learning experience. But to get the most out of this, you do have to put some effort in. Here are some tips for how to do this.

Do the Reading

This might sound obvious, but it can be so easy to slip into the habit of not completing the relevant reading before each seminar. While this may at times seem like a good choice to save time, in the long run, you will be missing out on so many valuable learning opportunities. Doing the reading will enable you to properly engage with the seminar.

Ask Questions

This can be daunting at times, but this is exactly what seminars are for. If you’re ever feeling unsure about something or want to go over a point again, just ask. Your tutors will really appreciate somebody taking an active role, and undoubtedly your classmates will gain something from hearing the response too.

Chat With Your Classmates

Chatting with people in your seminar classes is great for making friends, but you should be viewing these peers as incredible sources of knowledge as well as social companions. Every student will have such a unique experience of their learning and the world in general, so chatting to them about the subject will broaden your horizons in many ways.
