Don’t Skip Breakfast
Despite what some may say, breakfast is definitely the most important meal of the day. Other than giving you an energy boost early in the morning, breakfast also helps to boost your metabolism, which helps you to keep burning calories all day. Eggs are a very good option in the morning, but if you don’t have access to them, make sure to eat something that will keep you full.
Don’t Buy the Unhealthy Stuff
It’s as simple as this: If you don’t buy the unhealthy foods, you won’t be tempted to eat them. Make sure to stock your dorm room with healthy options, such as fruits and nuts. Make sure to pack some to eat during the day to prevent you from grabbing a candy bar from the vending machine, or spending unnecessary money in the dining hall or café.
Just because you don’t go to the gym everyday doesn’t mean you can’t lose/keep the weight off. There are many alternatives you can be doing during the day such as walking to class rather than taking the bus, or going for a jog instead of lying in bed watching Netflix.
Start with the Greens
Of course we’re always tempted to run to the endless pizza or pasta bar, but we don’t realize the consequences until we have a stomach ache or have stepped on the scale. It’s okay to eat the unhealthy option once in awhile, but on some days make sure to start off with a salad before getting the pizza. By eating the salad first, you will have minimized some of that hunger crave, and you won’t be as inclined to eat the whole pizza rather than a few bites.
Moderation is Key
Don’t try to remove all fatty foods from your diet completely. Restricting yourself will eventually lead to a craving which creates binge eating. Everything is okay as long as it is eaten in moderation.
Make Sure to Sleep
Getting enough sleep is essential for a college student. Being sleep deprived leads students to missing gym day more than usual and heading for the sugary energy drinks more often. We won’t be as inclined to eat the salad first because we want the energy and comfort the pizza will provide us with. Make sure to have a set sleeping pattern, and try your best to stick to it. Try to put your phone down earlier when in bed. You’ll be asleep in no time.
