Bob Marley’s Empire

Bob Marley provides an unparalleled influence on global culture. Since his passing on May 11, 1981, Bob Marley’s legend looms larger than ever, as evidenced by an ever-lengthening list of accomplishments attributable to his music, which identified oppressors and agitated for social change while simultaneously allowing listeners to forget their troubles and dance. Marley was a Jamaican singer-songwriter, musician, and guitarist who achieved international fame and acclaim, blending mostly reggae, ska and rocksteady in his compositions.

Marley’s life may have been cut too short, but his legacy lives on. It’s hard to believe that he made such a huge impact on music, considering he was only 36 years old when he passed away from cancer. His family has done an amazing job managing his estate and helping his legacy live and grow. The annual Bob Marley week, merchandising, record sales (more than $75 million after his death), and fan devotion continues to bring in millions of dollars. He has a lifestyle brand of eco-friendly products named House of Marley. He even has a drink named Marley’s Mellow Mood that is produced by his own beverage company. It also doesn’t hurt that he has almost 60 million Facebook fans!
