It works by dividing your time into 30-minute segments and encourages you to work for 25 minutes and then take a five-minute break to do something totally different. After four of these 30-minute segments, you are advised to take a longer break up to 30 minutes. There is an app called ‘Pomodoro’ that does a lot of the work for you by dividing your time up into these segments.
Lots of people find working easier when they have music to listen to. However, many people also find that music with vocals can distract them from their work. There are some great vocal-free instrumentals and soundscapes on YouTube such as Alpha Waves videos or piano covers of popular songs by Josh Cohen that enable you to listen to music without as much distraction.
Another useful app for increasing productivity is one called “Forest”. This app is designed to help users avoid using their phone, as users set a customized timer during which time, they are unable to use their phone. If they do not use their phone, the app will plant a digital tree. If they do use their phone, the tree will die. After a short while, it becomes very satisfying to build up your forest, and easier to focus on your work without using your phone.
