While many students find they are super busy with studying, most people still have some free time each week. Of course, you need time to relax and unwind, but aside from this, it can be a great idea to do something productive with your free hours. Volunteering is one of the best choices, and here are three reasons why.

A Great Way to Learn Skills and Gain Confidence

This is ideal if you don’t have much work experience, but even if you do there’s always more to learn and new skills to gain. It can be good to look for a volunteering role that is different from any previous employment so you have a chance to expand your skill set. Regardless of the role itself, volunteering somewhere is always a great way to build your confidence even more.

A Chance to Give Something Back

Giving your time and energy to a worthy cause is a wonderful feeling and it’s amazing to see the outcomes of your hard work. Perhaps you are getting involved with a community project, or you’re helping out with some local conservation or animal welfare. Whatever it is, this is a great way to spend your free time.

An Amazing Opportunity

Volunteering can open so many doors for you. If you’re lucky enough to find a role that is relevant to your desired career path then this is perfect, but if not then it’s still a fantastic thing to put on your resume and you may well make connections with people and organizations that will be of use to you in the future.

Volunteering is an amazing thing to do while at college. You are likely to have a few hour slots free during your week, and if you can spare the time then getting involved in a local project or a charitable organization is such a great choice. If you have some free time in your week and would love to get involved with some volunteer work but aren’t sure where to start, then here are some ideas to help you out.

A Local Meal Center

This kind of establishment is often referred to as a ‘soup kitchen’, and the basic premise is there is some cooked food on offer to people struggling to afford meals. There are usually tables and chairs and a warm indoor space to sit and eat. Extra hands are always needed to help with preparing and serving the food, as well as cleaning up afterward and this is such a great project to get involved with.

A Befriending Scheme

The idea behind this project is super lovely and something that will feel so great to be a part of. The organization pairs up the volunteers with people in the area who may not have much social contact for whatever reason. Perhaps they are elderly and not in contact with their remaining family members, or they have recently moved from another country and don’t know anyone in the area. Whatever the reason, you can get to know them and build a bond while providing social contact.

When it comes to post-college life, the traditional career path isn’t the only road to success. In fact, the journey to fulfilling work often takes unexpected twists and turns, which can lead us down paths less traveled. If you’re about to graduate or recently have, it’s time to explore some alternative career opportunities, because it might be your ultimate ticket for both personal and professional growth.

Freelancing

Picture this: instead of punching a clock from 9 to 5, you could be your own boss, calling the shots and charting your own course as a freelancer or entrepreneur. Whether you’re a graphic designer, writer, or coder, the dynamic world of work offers endless opportunities to turn your skills into a thriving business.

Volunteering

Consider the rewarding world of volunteer work, where passion meets purpose in the most profound ways. From teaching English abroad to building homes with Habitat for Humanity, volunteering offers a chance to make a meaningful impact. This may not translate into immediate cash, but the valuable experience and connections you’ll gain might very well earn you lucrative opportunities later.

Draw Inspiration from Others

If you’re still not convinced, it’s time to read up and get yourself educated about the success stories of those who took less conventional paths after college. From that aspiring musician who turned her passion for music into a successful YouTube channel, to the former corporate executive who traded his corner office for a life of travel as a freelance writer, these stories serve as a reminder that the sky’s the limit when it comes to pursuing your dreams.

For many students, studying abroad is seen as the ultimate college experience. A chance to immerse yourself in a new culture, language, and educational system. However, it’s not always feasible for everyone. But volunteering abroad could be a great alternative and here’s why.

Broadening Horizons Beyond the Classroom

Volunteering abroad is an unparalleled opportunity to experience life in a different country and culture, much like studying abroad. However, it often allows for deeper immersion into local communities. Volunteers work side by side with locals, participate in their daily routines, and contribute to projects that have a tangible impact on their lives.

Making a Tangible Difference

One of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering abroad is the ability to make a real difference in the world. Whether you’re helping to build schools, participating in conservation projects, or assisting in healthcare initiatives, the work you do will have a direct positive impact on the community you’re serving.

Affordability

Lastly, while studying abroad can be prohibitively expensive, volunteering abroad can be a more financially accessible option. Many organizations cover the cost of housing and meals for volunteers, and some even provide small stipends. There are also numerous scholarships and grants available specifically for volunteering abroad.
