Students Left a Pineapple In The Middle Of an Exhibition and People Thought It Was Art

Let’s face it: The definition of art is never clear cut. A black point on a white wall can be called art and be associated with all kinds of meaning.

So it was not so surprising to hear that some students left a pineapple in an exhibition and people thought it was part of a piece of art.

Ruairi Gray, a student at the University in Scotland, and his friend Lloyd Jack, left the fruit at the Look Again exhibition, hoping that it might be mistaken for art.

Funny fact is that when they returned after 4 days the found that the pineapple had been put inside its own glass display case.

Gray commented: “I saw an empty art display stand and decided to see how long it would stay there for or if people would believe it was art.” And again, “I came in later and it had been put in a glass case – it’s the funniest thing that has happened all year. My honors supervisor saw it and asked an art lecturer if it was real because he could not believe it.” The people of the gallery had no idea who decided to place the fruit there. “It’s a bit of a mystery – the glass is pretty heavy and would need two or three people to move it, we have no idea who did it. But it’s still there now, we decided to keep it because it’s keeping with the playful spirit of this commission.” Despite being clearly a prank, some might find some artistic meaning in this story!
