Many students find themselves searching for a part-time job to carry out alongside their studies. It’s great to learn some skills and gain some experience while earning your own wage. If you’re starting to have a look around but can’t imagine what kind of thing you might like, then here is some advice.
Server
For this role, you need to be prepared to chat with people constantly and talk confidently about the food and drink available. It’s common in these roles to experience challenging customers and situations, so you need to be able to think on your feet and not take things personally.
Bar Staff
This is another very social role, so again be prepared to be non-stop talking. Many customers will expect a certain level of knowledge about the drinks being served, so this kind of role may not be ideal if you’re not at all interested in alcoholic drinks for whatever reason.
Cleaner
This role is great if you prefer a bit of peace and quiet and enjoy just getting on with your tasks. It of course can involve some very messy situations, so if you’re at all squeamish then this may not be ideal.
Store Assistant
This is the kind of role that can go from being super slow-paced and a bit dull to a sudden rush of people, so you need to be able to handle both extremes and the changes between the two. You’ll be dealing with a wide range of customers, so respectfulness and confidence will be needed.
