Making time for travel during your time in college doesn’t come easily, but weekend getaways can help you keep your sense of adventure alive. If you’re in the mood for a mini-adventure you can embark on without missing any classes, here are five weekend getaway ideas you should consider exploring.

Day Trips

If you’re in the mood to explore some local attractions during the weekend, embarking on a day trip to one of the nearby cities is just the thing you need.

Guided Tours

Guided tours are also a great way to explore all the amazing attractions that the local area has the offer, and you’ll probably be able to get a student discount and join one without breaking the bank.

Beach Day

You can also enjoy the natural wonders of the local area by planning a beach or lake day during warmer seasons. Invite a few friends to tag along since this is a great way to bond outside of class.

Hiking & Camping

If you’re in the mood for an active holiday, hiking and camping are a great way to spend the weekend, especially if there are some national parks in the area.

Local Festivals

If you’re in the mood for a memorable experience, check if there are any local festivals, food fairs, concerts, and other events worth exploring off campus.

Studying abroad doesn’t come cheap, and you should try to save money whenever possible. Food will be one of your biggest expenses, but there are ways to keep your spending on the lower side. Here are some useful strategies you can use to save money on food while studying abroad.

Cook Your Meals

Cooking your own meals is a great way to save money in the long run. You’ll have to buy some kitchen appliances, such as a mini-fridge and a microwave, if they’re not available in your room, but it will pay off after some time.

Explore Local Markets

You can save a fortune by buying food at local stores and markets. Discount grocery stores and bulk food stores are also worth exploring because they’re much cheaper than regular supermarkets.

No Food Waste

You’ll lose a lot of money through the food you waste, but this is easily avoided. Never buy more food than you really need, especially when it comes to fresh produce that spoils easily. Make sure to store your leftovers properly and remember to eat them before they go bad.

Avoid Ordering Food

Ordering food can cost you a fortune, especially if it becomes a force of habit. If you don’t feel like cooking, treat yourself to a nice meal at a restaurant instead of ordering in because you’ll pay the same price either way.

Just a week after winning five Grammy Awards for his smash hit “Not Like Us”,  Kendrick Lamar had the time of his life headlining the Super Bowl LIX halftime show. 2025 is truly shaping up to be his year, and if you’re wondering what his time in school looked like, we’re here with all the details about his academic journey.

Lamar had a pretty rocky upbringing, but he found his safe haven after discovering hip-hop and becoming interested in poetry during his time at Vanguard Learning Center. He would constantly write down the lyrics in his notebooks, and his English teacher Regis Inge helped him improve his writing skills.

Despite being pretty quiet and shy, Lamar was a good student and eventually graduated from Centennial High School with straight As. He considered studying psychology and astronomy in college but decided to pursue music instead.

Despite never completing higher education, Lamar inspired several academic classes and seminars. Concordia University’s course “The Power of Hip Hop, It’s Bigger Than Us” explored the lyrical themes of the rapper’s works, including loyalty, fatherhood, class, and racial injustice.

He also delivered a powerful commencement at Compton College in 2024. The Pulitzer Prize winner reminded the students at this public community college that their degree is as big as any other because it all comes down to “taking these resources, taking what you learned and applying them.”

Chilly winter days are upon us, and you’ll notice your dorm room is colder than usual since many campuses struggle with inadequate heating. If you find yourself dealing with this issue, we’re here with some strategies that can help you keep your dorm room extra warm and cozy this winter.

Space Heaters?

Buying a space heater to combat the cold may be your first thought, but this is a slippery slope. It’s only worth considering if your college campus allows it, but keep in mind they’re often strictly forbidden due to safety issues involved.

Electric Blankets

Electric blankets have become a huge hit in recent years, and buying one can help you make it through the winter. Heating wires placed inside the fabric will help you stay warm and cozy when temperatures hit a new low.

Proper Bedding

Even if you don’t have an electric blanket, any warm blanket will do, and you should even consider using several layers. It’s also a good idea to switch up your bedding, opting for flannel sheets for extra warmth.

Proper Clothing

The way you dress in your dorm makes all the difference. Wear your warmest clothes when it’s super-cold outside, even several layers if necessary.

Block Cold Air

You should also consider blocking the cold air from coming in if your dorm is constantly cold. Check your windows and try to seal them if you notice there are cracks letting the cold air in.

After rising to prominence on TikTok, Addison Rae is slowly making a name for herself in the music industry with songs “Diet Pepsi” and “Aquamarine”. She became a household name at a pretty young age, but did she ever get a chance to go to college?

Dance has always been a huge part of Rae’s life, and she was just six when she started dancing competitively, traveling to competitions across the country. TikTok opened the door for her to share her talent with the world and helped her become a viral sensation, but she briefly attended college before finding success on this social media platform.

Rae studied sports broadcasting at the Louisiana State University, but dropped out after gaining popularity on TikTok. The 24-year-old media personality and singer claims it’s a common misconception that she left college for TikTok, explaining she did it to pursue her dreams.

“It was really to focus on pursuing my career in the entertainment industry and moving out [to Los Angeles] to, obviously, get more connections and get more involved in everything that I was doing already… If I decide to go back, I’m sure it will be great, but as of now, I just want to focus on the opportunities I’m being presented now,” she told J-14 Magazine.

Rae added she’ll stick to a similar major if she ever decides to go back to college and keep pursuing journalism because it’s a part of the entertainment industry.

Fall is bringing many major changes our way, including the start of another academic year. Boosting your immune system will be more important than ever right now, and here are five major steps you should take to reach that goal.

Healthy Diet

The things you eat make all the difference when it comes to fighting seasonal infections. Make sure to have plenty of fruits, veggies, and lean protein on your menu because they are rich in immune-boosting vitamins and minerals.

Good Sleep

Between your academic responsibilities and a busy social schedule, sleep won’t feel like a priority during your college years, but your immune system could take a hit if you neglect it.

Stay Hydrated

Always have a water bottle by your side because staying hydrated will help you keep your immune system in check. Herbal teas can also do wonders for your health, while alcohol is best avoided.

No Stress

Avoiding stress can be tricky when you’re constantly dealing with the pressures of college life, but you should come up with methods to keep your stress level in check.

Regular Exercise

Fitting workouts into your busy college schedule won’t be easy, but you should put an effort into staying active and on the move, even if it doesn’t mean hitting the gym every single day.

We all know that getting a good night’s sleep can make a huge difference in so many areas of our lives, but that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily easy to gently drift off each night. There are many reasons people may not sleep well, from stress and an over-active mind to dietary factors and exercise routines. As a student, the chances of poor sleep may be even worse due to the worries about studies, social life, and general adult independence. If you’ve researched possible options, then you may well have found that many of them involve taking some form of medication. While this can be needed and very helpful for some, it’s understandable to want to try alternatives before turning to medicine. Here are some natural and wholesome ideas to try to help you sleep better.

Journaling

If you think your sleep problems could be related to stress, then journalling can be an effective tool for dealing with this. Jotting down a few sentences about how your day was or what is currently on your mind can allow your mind to conclude it’s worrying for the evening and give it the space to switch off.

Lavender Essential Oil

Aromatherapy techniques have been around for years, and lavender oil is well-known for its calming properties. Try placing a few drops on your pillow before bed to let the soothing scent calm your mind.

Meditation App

There is an excellent range of meditation apps available these days, which can be a great tool for teaching some basic techniques. Most of them will have specific sessions to try before bed, aimed at helping your mind and body unwind and relax.

Think stylish travel is out of reach on a backpacker’s budget? Think again! Traveling in style doesn’t have to mean five-star resorts and first-class flights. It’s all about a little pre-planning and making smart choices along the way. Ready to travel smart and look great doing it? Let’s get started with some top tips for chic, affordable adventures.

Choose Your Destinations Wisely

Select destinations known for their affordability but rich in culture and beauty. Countries in Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, and parts of Central and South America offer stunning scenery, historic sites, and delicious cuisine at a fraction of the cost of more popular Western European or North American destinations.

Travel Off-Peak

Traveling during the off-peak season can significantly reduce the cost of flights and accommodations. You’ll also benefit from fewer crowds, giving you a more authentic experience of the destination. Research the best times to visit your chosen locations that balance weather and affordability.

Stay in Style for Less

Lastly, look for boutique hostels or budget boutique hotels that offer a more curated experience than traditional budget accommodations. Many of these places boast unique décor and a friendly atmosphere at very reasonable prices. Platforms like Airbnb can also offer great options in prime locations.

Being a student is an amazing experience but comes with many challenges. As well as the joy of living an independent adult life for the first time, there are also plans with friends to factor in, let alone time for studying and possibly part-time employment. It’s understandable if this feels like an impossible mission at times, but it is feasible to fit everything in with clever planning. Here’s how to create a schedule for your week that is realistic while also being effective.

Start Each Week With a Priorities List

This is the first step to ensuring your week runs as smoothly as possible. Each week this will undoubtedly change, so it’s essential to create a list every time. You can assign each task with a priority level in order to ensure the most crucial ones are met first, and the rest can be fitted in afterward.

Time How Long Tasks Take You

A common error when people try to plan their time is not really knowing how long each thing will take them. Try to keep track of this for a few weeks so that you have a much more accurate idea and can design your schedule around this. In the future, if you come across totally new tasks, then try to estimate based on similar tasks you’ve done previously, and always leave more time than you think you’ll need.
