Taylor Swift is one of the biggest pop stars in the world, and many young people see her as a role model. She started working on her music as a teen and never got a chance to have a traditional college experience, but her academic journey includes everything from homeschooling to an honorary doctorate.

Higher education wasn’t in the cards for Swift, and even her high school experience has been pretty tricky. She attended Hendersonville High School during her teenage years before transferring to Aaron Academy and turning to homeschooling due to her busy touring schedule. She eventually graduated one year early and decided to pursue music full-time.

Despite never attending college, Swift received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from New York University in 2022 and addressed her academic journey in her commemorative speech.

“I never got to have a normal college experience, per se. I went to public high school until 10th grade and then finished my education doing homeschool work on the floors of airport terminals,” said Swift, adding that the music video for “Love Song” was the closest she came to realizing her college dream.

Despite not being an academic herself, Taylor Swift’s body of work is studied at several colleges. Arizona State University introduced a course “Psychology of Taylor Swift”, while the University of Texas, New York University, and Berklee College of Music in Boston offered courses studying her music.

Zendaya

Zendaya has been acting from a young age, and she got her big break as the star of Disney’s Shake It Up before becoming one of the biggest Hollywood stars of her generation. Traditional college was never in the cards, but she did attend Oakland School for the Arts while pursuing an acting career.

Mike Faist

After graduating high school a year early, Mike Faist decided to pursue his acting dreams in New York. He attended the prestigious American Musical and Dramatic Academy for two semesters but eventually dropped out and sold off-Broadway tickets to make ends meet – before eventually becoming a Broadway star himself.

Josh O’Connor

Over 20 years ago, the movie industry was shaken up forever as the cult classic American Pie hit our screens. A movie that shaped an entire generation of teenagers, here is where the cast of American Pie actually went to college in real life.

Jason Biggs

Beloved for his role as the goofy yet lovable Jim, Biggs attended New York University after graduating high school. He later transferred to Montclair State University, ultimately dropping out to pursue a career in acting.

Alyson Hannigan

Known for being Jim’s quirky wife Michelle, Hannigan attended California State University, where she earned a degree in psychology. Still, psychology appeared to simply be a backup plan, given that Hannigan went on to shape a blockbuster film and TV career for herself.

Eugene Levy

Before playing Jim’s humorous, loving, and warmhearted dad Noah, Levy attended McMaster University, where he first embraced his love of acting. He even admitted to missing a lot of classes due to immersing himself in film club, a decision that retrospectively turned out to be the right call.

Butterflies

Butterfly clips may be Rodrigo’s favorite, but she enjoys hair clips in many different shapes and sizes. The “Good 4 U” singer is no stranger to making them an essential part of her Y2K-inspired hairstyles.

Pleated Skirts

Pleated skirts and dresses were all the rage during the 2000s, and the former Disney star can’t get enough of them.

Lacy Tops

Lace crop tops were one of the staples of the Y2K fashion, and we’ve seen Rodrigo wear them on several occasions. She also has a soft spot for dresses that include lacy details.

Priscilla is one of the buzziest new films to premiere in theatres this fall, largely thanks to the performances of its stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi. If you’ve been wondering where they went to school before becoming movie stars, we’re here with all the info you need.

Cailee Spaeny

Cailee Spaeny was so determined to make it as an actor that her education had to take the back seat. She dropped out of school at the age of 13, and never really felt at home there.

“I was terrible in school, sort of a classic story. I couldn’t figure it out. I didn’t test well. I had anxiety there. I didn’t connect. I just knew my brain wasn’t going to work in that way. I wasn’t going to take the normal path that all my friends were taking,” she told Glamour.

Spaeny fell in love with acting thanks to her homeschool co-op and later went to Springfield Little Theatre. She was there six days a week, taking dance classes, vocal lessons, and acting classes, and convinced her mom to take her to auditions in LA whenever possible.

Jacob Elordi

Euphoria and The Kissing Booth star Elordi attended the secondary schools of St. Kevin’s College in Melbourne and of St Joseph’s College, Nudgee in Brisbane in his youth, but he never really thrived academically. He knew he wanted to be an actor from a young age, and devoured books about film and biographies of famous Hollywood stars before becoming one himself.

“I didn’t finish university, I barely finished high school. All I know is from the books I’ve read, and the plays that I’ve read,” he told GQ.

Olivia Rodrigo was photographed attending a college class last year, and we finally know what it was like. The Grammy-winning star opened up about her college experience in a recent interview and admitted it was “absolutely terrifying”.

Rodrigo recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to discuss her album Guts, her upcoming tour, and everything else in between. Her new album notably features a song titled “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl” and the host couldn’t resist asking her if she ever attended an actual class.

Rodrigo told Kimmel she stopped going to a regular school when she was 12, but revealed she attended a class at the University of Southern California last year and described the experience as “absolutely terrifying”.

“You have these dreams where it’s the first day of school and you have no idea where to go and you don’t know anyone… I had that exact experience when I went to college last year. It was absolutely terrifying. I had no friends, didn’t know where to go and I actually walked into the wrong class,” said Rodrigo.

Despite the initial confusion, the young singer eventually found her footing in her poetry class and described it as “really cool”. She also revealed she conceived her song “Lacy” from her second studio album Guts in her poetry class.

The fourth and final season of S-x Education marked quite a shift for our favorite characters, as they left Moordale Secondary School for the Cavendish College. The academic journey of some of the actors playing them was just as wild, and here’s where they went to school before turning to acting.

Asa Butterfield

College wasn’t in the cards for Butterfield, who was only seven years old when he started acting, and he eventually only graduated from the Stoke Newington School.

Ncuti Gatwa

After completing his high school education in Edinburgh and Dunfermline, Gatwa moved to Glasgow. He got a Bachelor of Arts in Acting from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2013 and later received an honorary doctorate from his alma mater.

Emma Mackey

Emma Mackey has a lot in common with her character Maeve Wiley. She moved from France to the UK to study English language and literature at the University of Leeds before deciding to give acting a shot.

Connor Swindells

Swindells’s academic journey has been pretty rocky and he dropped out of college at 17 after attending Rydon Community College and Steyning Grammar School in Sussex. Like his character Adam Groff, Swindells struggled with school but eventually found his true passion.

Aimee Lou Wood

After graduating from Cheadle Hulme School, Wood decided to take a foundation course at the Oxford School of Drama. She then attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and received a Bachelor of Arts in acting before being cast on S-x Education.

Megan Thee Stallion learned what it feels like to be a struggling student during her time at Texas Southern University, and she’s now trying to help people in the same situation. The Grammy-winning rapper joined forces with Cheetos and launched a fake university that’s making a real impact by offering scholarships to struggling students.

Stallion teamed up with Cheetos to become a dean of administration at a fictional Flamin’ Hot University. Its curriculum centers on food, fashion, and lifestyle, and this campaign offers an exclusive merchandise line, with all proceeds going towards scholarships for students at the rapper’s alma mater, Texas Southern University.

To become eligible for these scholarships, students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be enrolled as a full-time senior with 15 hours or less left. Applications are open through October 13, and the full scholarship fund could potentially have a maximum value of $150,000.

Megan Thee Stallion graduated with a Bachelor of Science in health administration from Texas Southern University in 2021, and she’s hoping her collaboration with Cheetos will help other students make it to the graduation day stress-free.

“I know what it’s like to be a struggling college student. I know what it feels like to be discouraged: “I give up, my classes are hard, I can’t even pay for this, etc.” But I really got through it, and I wanted to be able to give back to other students that I know feel the same way I felt,” she told Billboard.
